Population density in the Port-à-Piment watershed
More than half of the population is settled along Port-à-Piment’s main river streams and coastline ; the rest of the population is scattered around approximately 102 km2 of steep slopes and uneven micro-climates. The densest settlements follow a linear configuration, which corresponds to the main stream paths that run in the watershed. The highest risk from floods and land loss during each year’s hurricane season (August through November) is present in those highly dense settlements.
