Erosion in the Port-à-Piment watershed
The combination of steep slopes and a mountainous morphology gives Port-à-Piment a natural predisposition to geological and hydrological hazards, such as erosion and floods. The physical vulnerability to natural hazards has been exacerbated by long-term unsustainable human behavior, such as unrestricted deforestation, intensive agriculture, poor land-use planning, and the lack of environmental governance.
